Art-Practice & Heritage of Falconry

The Timeless Art of Falconry: For millennia, the captivating practice of falconry has connected humans and birds of prey across cultures. While its precise origins remain a mystery, evidence suggests this ancient art first took flight in Central Asia or the Arabian Peninsula roughly 4,000 years ago.

The earliest documented traces appear around the 8th century BC, during the reign of Sargon II. Falconry likely journeyed to Europe around AD 400 with eastern migrations. Notably, Frederick II of Hohenstaufen, a keen early European enthusiast, immersed himself in Arabic falconry during his campaigns in the Middle East (1228-1229). His dedication led to the creation of the influential treatise, De Arte Venandi cum Avibus (The Art of Hunting with Birds), based on his translation and refinement of Moamyn's falconry manual.
