Birds, the feathered kind
A life with birds
As long as I can remember birds have one form or another been part of my life. My granny had a sustainable farmstead with a large flock of black Australorps in Klawer in Namaqualand. My dad had around 20 black Australorps, which I had to take care of.
One of our direct neighbours, Mr. Gilbert Laing, was a renowned canary keeper and judge and along with the canaries kept finches in large aviaries. My dad used to supply him eggs for his canary egg food.
On the other side, opposite our house we had Mr. Sternberg, a pigeon racing ace who won many prizes and even a Fiat motor car at one point. So, for as long as I can remember, I was surrounded by birds.
